MS Team 8th at Fostoria; League Meet this Weekend

The junior high wrestling team placed eighth in the 21-team Chuck Mason Invitational hosted by Fostoria. The Wildcats had 81 team points. Washington junior high won the team title with 200 points. Eastwood (138.5 pts.) and Otsego (103) from the Northern Buckeye Conference finished ahead of Woodmore. The Wildcats had four placers led by 80-pound champion, eighth-grader Chase Dickerson, who won two matches in the tournament including the title match, 10-8, over Donald Wingate from Washington. Earning third-place finishes was eighth-grader Brett Sandwisch in the 98-pound weight class and eighth-grader Clay Rickard at 134 pounds. Sandwisch went 4-1 in the tournament winning his third-place match over Tyson West from McPherson (Clyde), 6-2. Rickard also went 4-1 on the day winning his third-place match over Grant Joliff from Donnell (Findlay), by pin in 1:34. The other placer for Woodmore was seventh-grader Cameron Overmyer in the 92-pound weight class. Overmyer won three of five matches on the day. He lost 9-1 to Mason Glaze from Eastwood in the third-place match. Seventh-grader Christian Shope, wrestling at 86 pounds, finished sixth. The junior high team completes its season this weekend when they particpate in the NBC Championships Saturday. The meet will be hosted by Genoa and held in the high school gym at Genoa. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for students. Weigh-ins will take place at 7 a.m. and wrestling will begin at 9 a.m.
