Press Release

The Woodmore Youth Organization (WYO) is now accepting registrations for the summer baseball and softball season. This year, spring softball for 6th-8th grade girls has been added to the program. Programs of play include: beginner ball and coach pitch for 5-8 year olds and little league that offers competitive play for 8-14 year olds, specifically fastpitch for girls.

WYO welcomes all children interested in playing baseball or softball. Parents may register their children at woodmoreyouth.org. Participants need only show interest. WYO respects everyone’s ability and will work with families that may need assistance to pay fees. Registration deadline is March 1.

WYO recently purchased new pitching machines for the baseball and softball programs through a donation by the family of Gary Zajac. “It was a tremendous gift to the community and the children,” said WYO president Brian Whitcum.

The new batting cages are also ready to be used for the spring season. Other enhancements to the baseball and softball fields include: replacement of the Woodville dugout tarps, new bleacher awnings for two diamonds in Woodville, updates to the electrical, new backstops, new fencing along field lines, three new scoreboards, as well as a freshly painted re-organized concession stand complete with the Wildcat logo.

This year, the group will host three tournaments to include 10u and 12u girls, and the first annual, Gary Zajac Memorial, Rock ‘N Fire Softball Tournament June 29- July 1, named in memory of a former WYO president. Whitcum states, “We wanted to honor Gary’s memory and passion of the game. He gave a tremendous amount of time and put a lot of work into the program to make it what it is today,” said Whitcum.
